ABSTRACT

Objective To observe curative effects of biological amnion transplantation to treat the huge pterygium. Methods 86 eyes were divided into two groups randomly(by random number table).Group A were eyes treated with cutting the pterygium and uncovered sclarel wound.Group B were eyes treated with biological amnion which had been transplanted on scleral wound and all conea after the pterygium had cut.The irritative symptoms, heal time of corneal wound, relapse rate after half year were recorded. Results Its mild irritative symptoms such as foreign body sensation, photophobia and pain in group B were lighter than those in group A(χ2 =6.08,P =0.01,χ2 =31.40, P =0.00,χ2 =14.18,P =0.00).The time of corneal wound heal was 5.21 ±0.89 days in group A and it was (4.02 ± 0.71)days in group B.The statistic was significant(t =6.85,P =0.00).There was no significant difference in relapse rate after half year between group A and group B(χ2 =1.40,P =0.24).Conclusion Biological amnion transplantation can alleviating irritative symptoms and shortening heal time in huge pterygium operation.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the immunity efficacy of human amniotic membranes on rats. Methods: One hundred and fifty Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: biological amnion group, immunosuppression group, immunostimulation group, sham-operated group and blank control group. According to the study period, each group of thirty rats would be randomly divided into five experimental operation subgroups: the 1st week, the 2nd week, the 4th week, the 8th week group and the 12th week groups. The rats were implanted subcutaneously, then intramuscular injection of gentamicin sulfate for 3 days to resist the infection, and the immune organ coefficient, and the killing abilities of NK cell, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-αserum levels were detected according to the study period. Results: At 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th and 12th week after amniotic membrane implantation in rats, compared with the sham-operated and blank control groups, the biological amnion group had nonsignificant differences(P>0.05). At 1st week after amniotic membrane implantation in rats, immunosuppression group showed different levels of the immunosuppressive effect, such as the analysis of immune organ coefficient, which had significant differences compared with other groups(P<0.01). At 1st week after amniotic membrane implantation in rats, the imunostimulation group showed a certain degree of the immunostimulant effect, such as the killing abilities of NK cell, which had marked differences compared with other groups(P<0.05). Conclusion: The amniotic membranes have satisfactory immune safety with implantation in rats and do not cause significant adverse immune reactions.

Objective To evaluate the immunity efficacy of human amniotic membranes on rats. Methods One hundred and fifty Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups:biological amnion group, immunosuppression group, immunostimulation group, sham-operated group and blank control group. ABSTRACT

Background Neovascular glaucoma is a type of refractory glaucoma.Biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation is a primary therapy and its long-term effectiveness is noticeable. Objective The goal of this Survey was to evaluate the effectiveness of biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma and compare the clinical outcome with simple glaucoma valve implantation. Methods This was a retrospective observational case series. The clinical data of 44 eyes of 44 patients received biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma and 43 eyes of 43 patients received simple glaucoma valve implantation for neovascular glaucoma were retrospectively analyzed and compared. The age,sex and disease-cause were matched between these two groups.Patients were followed-up for 24 months after operation.Surgery success was identified as the intraocular pressure(IOP)<21 mmHg after operation.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient prior to the operation. Results The IOP was<21 mmHg throughout the follow-up duration in both groups. No significant difierence was found in the IOP value in 1 week after operation between two groups(t=-5.34,P=0.60).However,IOP values were lower in biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation group in 3,12 and 24 months after operation than those of simple glaucoma valve implantation(t=6.64,t=5.00,t=7.81,P<0.01).Operation successful rates in biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation group were 97.73%.93.18%。90.24%and 82.05%in 1 week,3 months,12 months and 24 months respectively after operation.and those in simple glaucoma valve implantation were 95.35%,71.43%,65.00%and 60.53%in corresponding time points, showing considerably significant differences between two groups (χ2=7.06,χ2=7.47,χ2=4.37,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in Ihe number of eyes with complication between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusion The biological amnion combined with glaucoma valve implantation surgery may be more effective and safe for the treatment of neovascular glaucoma than with glaucoma va]ve only.
